Sitting MPs face stiff challenges

CHIMBU governor Fr John Garia is among sitting MPs who faces stiff challenges from rival candidates.
Garia has the biggest number of 72 candidates challenging him for the regional seat.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has the smallest number of eight candidates challenging him for the Ialibu-Pangia seat
After Chimbu, Northern regional has the second highest number of candidates with 72, Kerema open has 71 and Karimui-Nomane with 63.
Don Polye, leader of T.H.E Triumph Heritage Empowerment Party, who has twice won on the first count, has been challenged by 60 candidates.
Sai Beseo is being challenged by 58 candidates for the Kainantu open seat.
For Daulo open, Kondo Patrick faces 57 candidates while Mark Maipakai has 56 candidates vying for his Kikori open seat, followed by Okapa 55, Sohe, 54, Kerowagi, 53 and 51 each for the Goroka and Ijivitari seats.

Eight people want O’Neill’s Ialibu-Pangia seat while 10 are after Sir Julius Chan’s New Ireland regional
seat. Tambul-Nebilyer has 11 candidates.

Parliamentary party leaders facing tough challenges are Polye with 60, Namah with 29, William Duma has 14, Anderson Agiru 23, Powes Parkop 27, Sir Puka Temu 14, Sir Michael Somare 19 and Peter Ipatas 19.
