RETURN OF WRITS HAVE TO BE DONE BY WEDNESDAY NEXT SAYS ELECTORAL COMMISSIONER, ANDREW TRAWEN, CMG, MBE.

WRITS for the 111 National Parliament seats have to be returned to the PNG Electoral Commissioner, Andrew Trawen, by close of business next Wednesday July 25, 2012.
Mr Trawen today announced the date saying it was two days before the official Return of the Writs for the 2012 General Elections which falls on July 27, 2012.
Mr Trawen set the date saying it would allow him ample time to peruse and determine the number of seats aggregated by all respective political parties in order to prepare his formal advice to the Governor General as to who should be invited to form government.
“As required by law the political party with the largest number of Members is officially invited by the Governor General to form government,” Mr Trawen said.
“This procedure is clearly stipulated under law and I as Electoral Commissioner am required to carefully scrutinize all the details pertaining to the total number of seats n by all respective political parties, and advice the Governor General accordingly.
“I am pleased to have received the Member-elect for Tari, James Marape, who this afternoon accompanied Returning Officer, Willie Kara, to return the Writ for the electorate.
“This is the first one for all the declared seats so far.”
Mr Trawen called on all winning candidates to take heed of the legal requirements relating to return of Writs and to complete the procedure on time.
Ends.
