Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare is said to be declared any moment form now.
While the counting is going on, Sir Michael at his residence at Wewak gave an exclusive interview saying that his number one priority is to have all Cabinet Ministers in the former O’Neill Namah regime plus the Speaker, Jeffrey Nape to be answerable to Contempt of Court charges which charges are current before the Supreme Court of Papua New Guinea.
This was in reference to the event last year following the “hijack” of Sir Michael’s legitimate Government on August 02, 2011.
At count 235 for the East Sepik provincial seat as at 15 July, 6:04pm, Sir Michael was leading comfortably at 84,364 ahead of runner up Allan Bird at 43,608, leaving more than 50 per cent gap in between.
It is most the National Alliance party game in the East Sepik seven seats; John Simon (National Alliance Party) was declared the winner for Maprik Open electorate with 13,637 votes.
In the Wewak open contest, NA’s Jim Simatab is leading with 4455 votes, in the Angoram open, Arthur Somare is leading comfortably with 7122 votes, Ambunti Drekikir, Anthony Aimo (sitting Member) is leading comfortably 7704 votes, except for Yangoru Saussia and Wosera Gawi contests.
Across the country, NA candidates were fending well in the respective races and Sir Michael, the NA election 2012 ‘commander in chief’ said NA is “very confident” to secure the numbers adding that the NA constitution will decide for who to head the NA party leadership, thus, to eye the Prime Minister’s post.
Sir Michael said the NA led Government will opt to restore the democratic confidence of the people of PNG, restore foreign investor confidence, increase resources to local level governments, and implement the aspirations of the Vision 2050.
