SERVICE delivery and community empowerment are important if the country is to see meaningful development, an independent candidate said.
Paul Kaupa, contesting the Moresby Northeast seat, said his two fundamental pillars for contesting the elections were to see services such as roads, water and electricity reaching the grassroots people of the city, and that they took part in the city’s development.
Kaupa nominated at the Electoral Commissions office on Monday.a
He is among candidates contesting the seat including former Police Association general secretary Clemence Kanau and sitting MP Andrew Mald.
“Services such as water, electricity and roads are important.
“Therefore, every leader must make it their business to deliver them,” he said.
Kaupa said many leaders had over the years “disappeared” after they were elected by the people and did not deliver services.
“You have the right to choose a good leader that will deliver services to you,” he told supporters.
He said leaders were subject to scrutiny and voted into parliament by the people who had faith in their style of leadership.
