Swearing in of Grand Chief as PM rejected by armed guards

The swearing in of the Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare did not happen yesterday. A combined contingent of both police and defense barred access into the GG's residence.

The scene at the gate was reminiscent of the scene that happened last December by the Oniel Camp, where guns shots where fires, and politicians crashed through police barriers just to see the GG. This time around it was less tense and some of the politicians could be seen sharing a light moment with the security forces. Sir Michael's deputy Anderson Aigiru was visibly enraged by the presence of the security forces and said " The supreme court decision is very clear, and the constitution must be upheld, the rule of law must be upheld, the presence of the police and defense is a shame in the eyes of the international community who are watching"

Word is that yesterdays swearing in did not happen as well because court orders need to be properly served to the GG as a matter of protocol before swearing in can take place.

It is expected that the Grand Chiefs Camp will today make another attempt.
