Caretaker Prime Minister and sitting Member for Ialibu Pangia, Peter O'Neill, has a commanding lead for the Open seat, in the primary count. After count 11, Mr. O'Neill polled 6,219 votes. His closest rival, Independent candidate, Raphael Noipo, polled 632 votes, and third runner up, another Independent candidate, Eke Lama, collected 437 votes.
For the Mendi Open Seat, sitting MP and PNG Party man, Isaac Joseph, is leading with 1,945 votes followed by Independent candidate Steven Mendepo on 1,303 votes and Independent candidate, De Kewanu, 691 votes after count 4.
For the Kagua Erave Seat, after count 6, sitting MP and Independent candidate, James Lagea is leading on 2,034 followed by PNG Party candidate Komeali Ropa on 1,232 votes and former MP Daniel Tulapi, an Independent, with 637 votes in third place.
In the Imbonggu electorate, results from the two ballot boxes that have been counted today, Joseph Ingipa, a PNG Party candidate, is leading with 1,090 votes followed by Steven Temo, a Triumph Heritage Empowerment Party candidate, on 568 votes and Wale Molsie, an Independent, on 473 votes. Sitting MP Francis Awesa is trailing behind on 189 votes.
Counting has been suspended and will resume tomorrow.
