“It is not over, O’Neill, Namah, Nape, Marat, Polye and all their “rogue” Government ministers will go to jail for Contempt of Court charges that are still pending and awaiting them,’’ says Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare.
“So do not vote them back because you will only waste your time just to see them go behind bars.’’
Sir Michael said this last week before hundreds of people at Sepik Timbers settlement in Wewak as he began his 2012 election campaign in the heartland of Sepik politics which saw this man emerge 44 years ago.
Many were surprised and started to converge in after hearing that the Grand Chief would be at the Sepik Timbers settlement for his first and public 2012 election campaign. Usually during regular electoral visits, the Grand Chief uses the local radio to address his people.
After Sepik Timbers, Sir Michael attended two more campaign spots in town.
The Grand Chief is going for his 10th shot (10th National Election of which he has won each one of them) at the National Parliament since 1968 with a strong back up of 79 National Alliance party candidates across PNG of which he is the leader.
His candidates for the seven East Sepik seats: himself for the East Sepik regional seat; Jim Simitab for Wewak; Arthur Somare for Angoram; Peter Wararu Waranaka for Yangoru Saussia; John Simon for Maprik; Anthony Aimo for Ambuniti Drekikir and Paul Malken for Wosera Gawi.
“Mi bai win na forming next Government...mi i no inap lus (I am going to win and form the next Government. I will not lose.),” Sir Michael announced publicly after a worried young mother asked him a question highlighting the continuous turn of events in the country and fear that he (Sir Michael) might not make it back to Parliament.
He urged voters to vote for only NA, Pangu Pati, Melanesian Alliance party and Peoples United Assembly party candidates in this election.
