MEDIA STATEMENT
ABG Islands to complete poll by end of the week
Atoll Islands in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville will complete their polling by the end of the week.
With the extension granted by the Electoral Commission to extend the polling periods for several provinces due mainly to population density, rugged terrains and travelling challenges, Nugiria, Mortlock, Catarats and Tasman will make their mark on time.
New Guinea Island Acting Regional Operations, Manager Alice Guguna said Buka will complete voting by the end of the week.
“The polling teams for Nugiria arrived there on Saturday and the people began voting yesterday and are continuing today. Polling team one will arrive on Mortlock Island today and on Tuesday the second polling team will move on to Catarats Island.”
She also said the Mortlock and Tasman Islanders will cast their votes during the week. “The travelling polling teams are expected to leave Catarats for Tasman on the same Tuesday as it requires a longer travelling time”.
Mrs. Guguna says that depending on weather, the smaller Islands should complete polling by Thursday morning the latest.
“We expect polls to be completed by Thursday morning the latest and the polling teams should return to Buka by Friday”
