ELECTION ROUND-UP IN THE HIGHLANDS.
The Eastern Highlands Province and Chimbu will commence counting this afternoon.
As the deadline for return of writs is fast approaching, Electoral Commissioner, Andrew Trawen has approved counting to take place on a 24 hours basis.
“Counting officials will be rostered on a day and night shift basis, backed by security personnel and a sharp eye from headquarters in Port Moresby,’’ Mr Trawen said.
Counting for primary votes commenced in Jiwak and Western Highlands Province today. The Dei Open electorate is on its elimination stage now.
Counting is also continuing in Hella, while the Southern Highlands have also begun eliminations as well.
It’s the same for Enga Province – counting continues and Kompiam/Ambum has also resumed counting after being suspended yesterday.
Mr Trawen confirmed the declaration of one more seat in the Highlands before lunch time today. Koroba/Lake Kopiago has a new Member of Parliament in Philip Undialu.
Total number of declared seats as at 1pm stood at 17.
