The National Executive Council of the Parliament elect Government of Mr Peter ONIEL is now meeting at Parliament to deliberate on the motion which was passed today by more then 40 MP’s in Parliament this afternoon for a State of Emergency. Parliament has now asked the NEC to recommend to the Governor General to declare a STATE OF EMERGENCY in NCD, Hides and parts of the Southern Highlands Province. The decision to pass the motion stems from what was described as a Security Threat posed by police officers, who are in support of the Somare appointed Police Commissioner, Fred Yakasa. Secondly it also passed a motion NOT to recognize the Supreme Court’s decision on Monday and also the actions of the Military and police personal yesterday at the court house, which now means that Parliament approved these actions. These motions were moved by the Leader for Government Business and Member for Esa’ala, Moses Maladina. Once approved by NEC this evening, a letter will be directed to the Governor General to declare a state of emergency next week, which is when it comes into effect. Mr Peter ONIEL, during a Press Conference this afternoon, following parliament sitting clarified that when effected, individuals in NCD, Hela and parts of the SHP who are posing a threat to the country;s National Security will be arrested on the spot by police. He says Parliament will meet for the last time next week Tuesday at 10am.
